After the longest banquet in Bavaria in June, the next highlight in the city of Moosburg's anniversary year is to follow: for the city's 1250th birthday, a 125-metre-long yeast loaf is being baked.

Moosburg

– The city of Moosburg is really letting it rip in the anniversary year: While the 1250th birthday of the City of the Three Roses was celebrated in June with the longest banquet in Bavaria, the next highlight is to follow in September: with a 125 meter long yeast braid on September 11th "Moosburg's longest pastry" will be set up - for a good cause and with a prominent visitor: Bavaria's Prime Minister Markus Söder will cut the braid.

The idea for this event came from Green City Councilor Johannes Becher, who had suggested a few weeks ago that a 12.50 meter long pretzel braid should be baked as part of the autumn show.

However: "This is not a challenge for Thomas Grundner," said Mayor Josef Dollinger on Friday morning at a press conference.

After all, Moosburg's master baker caused a stir in 2005 with a 105 meter long stollen and in 2006 with a 112 meter long baked apple strudel.

So now a 125 meter long yeast braid is to follow.

Yeast plait is given in return for a donation

On the autumn show Sunday, September 11th, the Hefezopf is to be set up in the city center - from the town hall to the plan.

At 1.30 p.m. it is planned that Prime Minister Markus Söder will cut the yeast braid.

This, in turn, is the starting signal for the fundraising campaign: the yeast plaited braid is given out to the citizens in return for a donation.

The proceeds go to the BR campaign "Sternstunden".

A week before the event, the master baker gets started

Thomas Grundner is aware that this will be a "big deal".

Accordingly, he will start preparing the yeast plait a week before the event.

In total, he reports, 113.5 kilograms of flour, 20 kilograms of butter, 22.5 kilograms of quark, 17 liters of milk, five kilograms of yeast, 600 eggs, 32.5 kilograms of raisins and ten kilograms of sugar are processed.

The dough is stored in the large refrigerators before the plait is freshly baked on Sunday.

The braid is given out in return for a donation – Grundner gives numbers as a guide for the citizens: A two centimeter thick piece of braid would cost one euro.

And as a little encouragement he said: "Ten centimeters of braid is one year of city history."

5,000 to 10,000 visitors expected

Josef Dollinger is very pleased that Markus Söder can be expected to be a prominent visitor to the Dreirosenstadt: "It's a really nice highlight of the autumn show - it couldn't be better." Dollinger expects around 5,000 to 10,000 visitors who - like the longest table in June - hopefully again in red and white and thus dressed in the colors of the city.

That would be a "great picture" if the spectators in red and white framed the parade.

"That would be a dream," says Dollinger.

By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.

Sporty schedule not only for Markus Söder

Despite all the special features, the program on this festive Sunday will be "sporty": At 1.30 p.m. the braid will be cut and at 2 p.m. the procession will set off through the city center - in between Söder will sign the city's golden book.

And at around 3.30 p.m. the Prime Minister is to say a word of welcome in the marquee, Dollinger announces the schedule.

In the background, the building yard manager and event manager Martin Holzer and his team will ensure that the tables required for the day are set up and taken down in time for the pageant.

"It's sporty - but we can do it," he is certain.
