The Biberbach Veterans and Soldiers Association celebrates its big anniversary.

The association has existed for 125 years.

Biberbach – The whole of Biberbach is already in the festive spirit, because the local veterans and soldiers' association is celebrating the 125th anniversary of its founding on Sunday, September 4th, at the Lohauser-Hof on Schulstraße.

They actually wanted to celebrate this festival in 2021, but Corona prevented this.

As early as 1896 it happened that the Biberbachers left the 24-year-old parish association of veterans and warriors from Vierkirchen and founded their own association.

The founding of this independent Biberbach veterans and warriors association was announced on August 11, 1896 to the Royal District Office of Dachau.

Biberbacher Veterans and Soldiers Association: Consecration of flags in the founding year

Old records show that the farmer Johann Huber was elected chairman and the farmer Peter Hartl took over the office of treasurer.

The teacher Josef Schwemmer made himself available as secretary.

The farmers Sebastian Schmid from Milbertshofen and Josef Kiening from Rudelzhofen as well as Schmid Benno Felsl from Biberbach were also involved in the board.

In the same year that it was founded, on September 6, 1896 to be precise, the newly founded association held a flag consecration ceremony in which 14 delegations from foreign associations took part.

The neighboring club from Ampermoching was chosen as the sponsor club.

In 1918 Johann Huber retired as chairman and handed over the official business to his son of the same name.

In 1925 a salute cannon was purchased

It was not until 1925 that the association was able to raise the funds to buy a salute cannon.

Benno Kreuzer was appointed gunner.

The valuable piece was given to Michael Schmid to be kept in his house.

He, in turn, thought: "I have to try this thing right away".

When he got home, he loaded the “thing” and positioned it in the direction of the Kramer hallway.

18-year-old beaten and robbed in Karlsfeld

It wouldn't have been so bad if a craftsman hadn't come by at that moment and later claimed that his eardrum had burst.

The lad reported the club for assault, and after several lawsuits the club was found guilty and the plaintiff awarded an annuity, which all members had to pay together.

This was of course a heavy burden for the club, which lasted until 1939.

This legal dispute led to Georg Kohr replacing Johann Huber as chairman in the year the cannon was purchased.

Club life came to a standstill during the Second World War.

It was not until 1956, on the 60th anniversary of the founding, that a decision was made to buy a new flag, which was carried in the same year together with 23 associations for church consecration.

In 1960, after 36 years in office, Georg Kohr resigned from the post of chairman for reasons of age.

He was replaced as head of the club by Josef Fuss, who was very committed to the club until 1992.

Bock paschen was popular for many years

In order to improve the association's finances, the members organized a Bockpaschen for the first time in 1961.

They then held this dice game every three years, and it was always great fun when a living ram was brought to the village inn Scherm as the first prize.

It wasn't until 2008 that they stopped the Bockpaschen due to declining popularity.

War memorial was built in 1963

A milestone in the club's 125-year history was the construction of the large war memorial at the western entrance to the church, which was ceremoniously unveiled on July 23, 1963 in the presence of 47 clubs.

An accident happened while the war memorial was being transported: in a sharp left turn, the heavy stone fell from the truck into a ditch, but did not break apart.

The obelisk was reloaded with the help of a crane and brought to Biberbach.

Because more and more Bundeswehr reservists joined the association, the association was renamed the "Veterans' and Soldiers' Association" in 1980.

Many members still remember the 90-year celebration, which took place in a smaller but dignified setting.

In 1992 Willi Fottner took over the chairmanship of the association and kept it for 25 years.

100th anniversary was celebrated for days

For three days in 1996, the members celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding.

The long overdue renovation of the war memorial will be tackled this year.

The ceremonial inauguration is to take place as part of the national day of mourning.

With Georg Weber, the association has had a very active chairman since 2016.

Since 2018, women can also become members of the Veterans' and Soldiers' Association.

Currently, 67 men and four women are united in this association, which also has a significant influence on social life in the village.

It starts with the warrior anniversary and ends with the organization of the village festival every four years.

The purpose of the association has not changed much in 125 years: the association is still intended to be a reminder of peace, and today, as in the past, one wants to commemorate the fallen and missing.
