Bernried

– The old water tower high above Bernried has been out of service since the end of 2014 and has been replaced by a new one on the Binselberg.

Since 2015, the municipality has wanted to sell the property along with a small green area.

But a buyer who could transform the building into a café has not yet been found.

The water tower, which had been in operation for almost five decades, was also a topic at the most recent budget meeting: Deputy Mayor Robert Schiebel indicated that a sale would probably be rather unrealistic, but the sales revenue of 700,000 euros planned in the budget every year appears on the income side of the community.

“The naming in the budget suggests an income that is highly unlikely to be realised.

The budget is unnecessarily "inflated", wrote Schiebel when asked by the local newspaper about his statement in the municipal council.

Scheduled in the household “as a matter of routine”.

Mayor Georg Malterer also confirmed that a sale would be difficult.

This happens almost "routinely", the municipality has not given up hope of a sale.

There are always interested parties, says Malterer.

But for most, the area around the tower is too small to set up a café there.

According to Malterer, using the tower, which is not listed as a monument and is not far from a forest near the Neusee in the district of Hapberg, is “rather out of the question” for use as an apartment.

The cylindrical building is around 28 meters high and has a diameter of 5.5 meters.

Should the property be sold after all, this will benefit the local fee payer.

Because the majority of the proceeds should flow into the water supply of the community and thus keep the water price stable or even drop it.
