They are called Aiways, Nio or MG, and they are intended to heat up the established competition: Eight Chinese car brands from seven manufacturers can already be bought in Germany or very soon.

Only a few experts may have noticed that since the beginning of the year, the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) has also included Chinese car brands in its statistics.

Some time ago, there was a first tentative attempt by manufacturers from the Middle Kingdom to gain a foothold in this country, but this failed, among other things, due to the poor safety of the cars.

Now the second, much better prepared wave of attacks is rolling on the difficult German and European car market.

In addition to takeovers (e.g. of Volvo by the Chinese Geely group) and cooperations (like the new electric Mini with Great Wall or the next Smart with Geely), many own brands are also part of the strategy.

The change caused by electrification and new sales models such as car subscriptions increase the chances against the established competition from Europe, Asia and the USA.

Cars from China: German importers and workshops help

In the first seven months of this year, almost 7,000 cars from Chinese manufacturers were registered in Germany.

MG Roewe, which offers the electric MG Marvel R, for example, has a market share of 0.3 percent: as much as Honda, and more than Subaru or the once strong Stellantis brand Alfa Romeo.
