Erding – Deputy district administrator Franz-Josef Hofstetter and family minister Ulrike Scharf gave the go-ahead for the new branch of training to become a nanny at the Dr.

Herbert Weinberger vocational school in Erding.

The future graduates are intended to counteract the ubiquitous shortage of skilled workers in early childhood education.

Headmaster Dieter Link was pleased about the enormous demand for the training positions.

With 64 young people interested, the response far exceeded expectations, so that a second class could even be set up.

At the end of the two-year training, the students obtain the qualification "state-certified child care worker".

The training should only be the beginning of a package of measures to strengthen the educational offer in the district.

In a next step, advanced training to become a “state-approved educator” is planned.

Finally, the long-term goal envisaged by District Administrator Martin Bayersdorfer is the establishment of a specialist academy for social pedagogy as a state school: "It is particularly important to me that you and many other young people who are interested in a job in the field of child care and education should have an educational institution with short distances to the place of residence can be offered.

And of course we have to and want to expand the offer even further,” he said to the young people.

At the same time, early childhood education is no longer the exclusive domain of women, as Minister of State Scharf stressed.

After all, a good ten percent of the trainees are young men.

A welcome development that takes into account changing social role models.

She was impressed by the courageous commitment of the prospective nannies: "You are the ones who are building the future for our children and adolescents."

And there are more and more of them in the district of Erding.

Nearly a third of the county's population is under the age of 25.

Today, almost 300 more children are born each year than ten years ago, and the number of children under the age of three requiring care has more than tripled since 2007.

These meet with an increasing shortage of staff in the educational professions.

Many communities are struggling to meet the enormous needs, which are increasing due to increased demand for crèche places, school childcare and longer opening and booking hours.

In addition, children from the age of one have a legal right to a childcare place.

They are sure to receive recognition, as Franz-Josef Hofstetter assured the assembled students in view of their career choice: "Thank you.
