Francisco Igea demands the resignation of the president of the Cortes of Castilla y León for "defamation"

The only Ciudadanos attorney threatens to take the leader of Vox to court after several days of tension in the Cortes

The former Vice President of the Government of Castilla y León and currently the only Attorney for Citizens, Francisco Igea, has demanded this Thursday the resignation of the President of the Autonomous Courts, Carlos Pollán (Vox), because he considers that this high institutional position, which should be neutral, has contributed to circulating a “defamation”.

Pollán has broadcast on Twitter a message from the far-right parliamentarian David Hierro that alluded to a court case for which Igea was acquitted three years ago.

The dispute comes two days after Igea's successor in the regional government, Juan García-Gallardo (Vox), called him an "imbecile" while the Ciudadanos representative questioned him from the floor of the hemicycle, without Pollán himself reprimanding his party partner for the insult.

Igea has given the president of the Chamber 24 hours to present his resignation or, otherwise, he has said, he will take the matter to court.

The tweet written by Hierro includes a photo of the Ciudadanos leader sitting in court and reads as follows: "He was not waiting for them to ask him to dance, he was on the defendant's bench for a complaint of threats against one of his militants."

The also parliamentary spokesman for Vox finishes off his message, written on Wednesday afternoon, with a “Bad ex-vice president”.

Hierro responded to another Igea tweet in which he criticized the fact that García-Gallardo, who had insulted him in Tuesday's session, had not apologized: “A gentleman can make a mistake, but he should rectify it.

A president who had dignity would make his behavior ugly.

Neither our vice president is a gentleman nor does Mañueco know the meaning of the word dignity.

A badass government,” Igea wrote.

These controversies are taking place in the face of the silence of the regional president, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco (PP), in coalition with Vox to remain in office after the elections last February, called after ejecting Ciudadanos from the Government.

García-Gallardo, far from apologizing after calling Igea an idiot, added on Tuesday before his protest: "And an alleged criminal too."

The former vice president of the Board has affirmed this Thursday that, beyond the noise of this week, “the most serious thing happened yesterday [Wednesday] afternoon”, when David Hierro posted “the photograph of an innocent person”.

Igea has insisted that the image did not reflect that the sentence, which was acquittal, even spoke of "spurious interests" in the complaint;

and he has reproached that “the man who must ensure the proper functioning of the institutions [Pollán]” has retweeted Hierro: “It will be the court that decides if he is defamatory.

I respect the presumption of innocence but I will defend my innocence”, he has said.

The complaint, which would be presented in a guard court so that the judicial authority decides whether, as they are registered, it should be submitted to the Superior Court of Justice of Castilla y León,

would include both Hierro and Pollán for that alleged defamation.

“If Carlos Pollán does not resign immediately, within 24 hours, I will claim my right to honor in court.

He has shown that he is not qualified to maintain the neutrality required of a President of the Cortes ”, Igea has settled.

"The persecution and the campaign of insults and defamation is intolerable," added the attorney.

"What is worrying is that it is the Mañueco style and the Feijóo style [Alberto Núñez Feijóo, president of the PP]."

This episode adds to the moments of tension experienced in the second parliamentary session after the summer.

After García-Gallardo's insult to Igea on Tuesday, on Wednesday Pablo Fernández, from United We Can, got into an argument with the PP spokesman, Raúl de la Hoz, from the rostrum, after the latter repeatedly interrupted him.

The vice president of the Chamber, Francisco Vázquez (PP), who did not cut off the comments against Fernández, said: "I am about to suspend the session and fuck them."

He finally ordered a 15-minute recess to calm things down.
