Asher Zelig Beharev, the first publisher of Israel Hayom, passed away at the age of 70 during Rosh Hashanah. His funeral will be held tomorrow at 3:00 PM in the new cemetery in Kfar Nachman in Ra'anana. He left behind a wife and three children.
Beharev was born in Tel Aviv, studied at the Nativ Meir yeshiva of religious Zionism and served in the 8200 unit of the intelligence after earning a bachelor's degree in economics and computer science at Tel Aviv University as part of the military reserve.

In 1982 he founded the software house MTI, later he was one of the founders of Taldor which over time merged 12 other companies and was ranked as the third largest computer company in Israel.
As part of its business, the company dealt in the field of software development, communication and integration.
In 2006, Beharev sold most of his holdings in the company and mainly engaged in consulting and investments in the field, especially in the high-tech field.
In parallel with his work in the private market, Beharev was one of the founders of the State Authority for Information Security.
The Authority has gone through many incarnations and today it is called the National Cyber Array.
In addition to this, Beharev became an active chairman of the association "Quality in Rehabilitation", which led a move in the field of mental health to integrate mentally challenged people into the community. The association is active to this day and treats more than 8,000 challenged people and their families, operating hostels, sheltered housing and support groups for families and contestants.

In 2007, Beharev was approached by businessman and billionaire Sheldon Adelson and asked him to help establish a new daily newspaper in Israel - "Israel Hayom".
Beharev was recruited to the position and served as the newspaper's publisher for 11 years until 2018. As part of his position, Beharev accompanied all stages of the birth of the newspaper. He was later involved in the purchase of the newspaper Mekor Rishon by the Adelson family.
He was also involved in buying the printing house.
At the same time, he continued to engage in high-tech and was among the founders of the start-up companies Gita in the offensive cyber field, Waterpool in the defensive cyber field, Oriper in the cancer drug field, and more.
