Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani confirmed that messages were exchanged with the United States through mediators on the nuclear agreement on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meeting.
"We are making efforts within the framework of negotiations aimed at canceling the embargo imposed on Iran through the European coordinator," Kanaani was quoted by the Iranian news agency IRNA as saying, adding: "The meeting of the United Nations General Assembly was a good opportunity for talks in this regard. Exchange of messages between Iran and the United States through intermediaries.”
Kanaani stressed his country's commitment to reaching a good and strong agreement and achieving a positive result, pointing out that Iran had provided a transparent response to the draft of the opposite party to remove ambiguity from it and take steps to reach an agreement.
Kanani explained that Iran was working to send a clear response that would contribute to reaching a final agreement, noting that "there is still an opportunity to revive the nuclear agreement if Washington shows the necessary will."
On the attacks on Iranian embassies abroad, Kanaani said: These embassies in some European countries were attacked by groups and people linked to groups hostile to Iran, stressing the need to maintain the security of embassies according to the Vienna Convention, which stipulates the need to ensure this in all countries of the world.
Regarding the Iranian position on the situation in Iraq, Kanaani said: “Iran’s policies in dealing with Iraq depend on respect for the government and territorial integrity of this country and respect for its sovereignty and independence,” noting that Iran helped Iraq combat terrorist groups, and defended the security of the Iraqi people.
Regarding the developments in Yemen, Kanaani said: The solution in this country, as we have repeatedly emphasized, is a political solution, and the armistice is one of the ways Iran has proposed to resolve the crisis, calling for the abolition of the unjust embargo imposed on the Yemeni people.
