The German Economy Minister accused the United States and other gas-supplying countries of imposing astronomical prices for their supplies, indicating that they are trying to benefit from the Ukrainian crisis.
The German newspaper, "Nose", quoted German Economy Minister Robert Habeck as saying: "Some countries, including friendly ones, sometimes achieve astronomical prices from gas sales, and of course this leads to problems."
He added, "The United States reached out to us when oil prices rose, and as a result the national oil reserves in Europe were exploited. I believe that solidarity will be beneficial to curb gas prices."
This comes as Russian supplies through Gazprom have been significantly disrupted over the past few months, largely due to international sanctions imposed on Russia, and the potential sabotage of the North Stream line.
