How can young people be inspired for the working world of tomorrow?

At the Economic Forum on the Business Campus in Unterschleißheim, an expert revealed to companies how new staff work.

Unterschleißheim – Companies are finding it increasingly difficult to find good staff.

"The situation is catastrophic," said Bernd Knobloch from "Digitron Engineering Services" at the Economic Forum on the Unterschleißheim Business Campus.

"We are looking for 18 people in technology, mechatronics and electronics technicians." The company has started new strategies to recruit staff: flexible working hours, further training, language courses.

There are also flat hierarchies and a lot of self-management.

Nevertheless, according to Knoblauch, it is hard to find good employees.

Why is this so difficult?

Simon Schnetzer knows the answer.

The youth researcher examines the living environment of Generation Z, i.e. those born between 1995 and 2009. This generation is characterized by loss of prosperity, permanent crises - climate, war and Corona - by smartphones and social media.

Generation Z's expectations of the world of work are different than those of previous generations.

She wants quick feedback, non-binding nature and respect.

The companies would have to respond to these demands, otherwise they would have a hard time winning over the young people.

“Demographic change is forcing the world of work to rethink, break the rhythm and gain the attention of young people.

We have to capture the moment of excitement,” said Schnetzer.

“It is a journey that the world of work must embark on,

Work-life balance more and more important

Schnetzer summarized some trends in recruiting 14 to 29 year olds.

This group places a special focus on work-life balance.

One option is therefore the four-day week.

The young adults would like help in dealing with stress and the option to work from home.

It is also important to see the workforce as people with a personality and to bond with them.

Money is a top motivator for this generation.

The keyword "pre-boarding" means establishing a connection with the company before the first day of work.

Schnetzer also gave the companies some concrete ideas: how about a feedback Friday?

All employees are allowed to submit their ideas and exchange ideas with one another.

What speaks against a leadership check?

The employees evaluate their superiors and tell them what they want.

“Companies need to change to remain competitive”

After the lecture, the companies from the district and the surrounding area exchange ideas.

How were the tips received?

.

"It is incredibly important as a company to find the bridge with the next generation, with whom we will work in the future," said Claudia Sippel, Managing Director of the consulting firm at "CAEvolution GmbH" from Munich.

You have to be aware of the characteristics of the generation and have foresight when recruiting employees.

It is a challenge to understand the generations.

The importance of work-life balance is taking up more and more space, young people want more free time.

For Katharina Vogt from "Vogt digital" in Unterschleißheim, one thing is certain: companies must focus more on their online presence and present themselves on the Internet.

“Young people are online, on social media.

A craftsman does not need a website for his potential customers, but he does for potential employees,” said Vogt, who gives communication tips to customers herself with her company.

The hybrid model with home office is one way to create incentives.

"It's been difficult in Munich for a long time because of the housing situation," said Vogt.

"Companies have to change in order to remain competitive".

Salary expectations are partly exaggerated?

The shortage of skilled workers is also a huge problem for the residence hotel in Unterschleißheim, says Michael Littich.

He no longer finds any employees at all.

The hotel fills the trainee positions with staff from non-EU countries, from Morocco, Tunisia or Georgia.

"For us, it's incredibly important to understand how we can gain a foothold in the domestic labor market," says Littich.

"We present ourselves at trade fairs, but we just don't manage to reach people." He thinks the idea of Feedback Friday is great for incorporating the ideas of young people.

Holger Heiss from "RaumweltenHeiss" from Kirchheim sees another problem: "Some of the salary expectations are exaggerated." Heiss wants to ask the young people about their job ideas in the future.

It needs an exchange and an encounter at eye level.
