The world's higher education research institute Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) announced the latest Asian university rankings yesterday (8th), and only one university in Hong Kong, the University of Hong Kong, ranked among the top 10, one less than last year.
In addition, the rankings of the nine universities in Hong Kong fell, including the University of Hong Kong, which dropped from 3rd to 4th, the Chinese University from 11th to 12th, and the University of Science and Technology from 9th to 14th.
Peking University surpassed last year's National University of Singapore to become the latest "Asia No. 1".
Among Hong Kong universities, the University of Hong Kong ranks the highest among Asian universities, ranking 4th, down one place from last year and falling out of the top three.
Chinese University dropped from 11th to 12th last year, and University of Science and Technology dropped from 9th to 14th.
The number of Hong Kong universities ranked in the top 20 in Asia this year has also dropped from 4 last year to 3. Among them, City University, which ranked 20th last year, dropped to 23rd this year.
Polytechnic University dropped one spot to 26th, Baptist University dropped from 66th to 68th, and Lingnan University dropped from 131st to 152nd.
Shue Yan University, a self-financing institution, fell to 351st to 400th, Hang Seng University fell to 551st to 600th.
This year, Peking University topped the list as the best university in Asia, while the National University of Singapore dropped one rank to second and Tsinghua University climbed to third.
