Are we the suckers? El Al and Israel Air earned millions of dollars this year - but the passenger reviews celebrate • "Israel Hayom" inspection: the customer service of both companies is lacking

Can smile: the Israeli airlines El Al and Israel Air report very nice profits in the last year.

Israir announced yesterday a net profit of approximately 18 million dollars in the first nine months of the year, compared to a profit of 4.5 million dollars in the same period in 2019. At the same time, El Al announced last week very handsome profits of 67 million dollars this year in the report of the third quarter, The company's revenues jumped to 626 million dollars, similar to that of 2019.

The figures for the two Israeli airlines are encouraging and gratifying, but at the same time there is public criticism and not a few complaints about the way those companies operate.

We tried to reach El Al's customer service following many complaints we received from the company's customers and only after waiting for more than an hour did we get a response.

We called several times over several days - and the results were pretty much the same each time.

In Bishrair the situation was even worse and we simply did not receive an answer after more than an hour of waiting.

Also in the case of Israir, there are quite a few complaints that reach us from the company's customers, that the company does not operate a satisfactory customer service.

And here the question arises - alongside the high profits of those companies, why do their customers have to deal with the difficulty of talking to a representative in a simple way.

A downward trend in passengers

In addition, there is a significant increase in flight ticket prices.

This is a broader trend than Arkie and El Al, but in El Al's report to the stock exchange it can be seen that the company returned to activity to the extent of only 72% compared to the same period in 2019, while its revenues reach 97% of what they were at the same time in 2019, which indicates A very significant price increase in the last three years.

An interesting statistic that emerges from the airport authority data published last month indicates a downward trend in the volume of passengers who flew on El Al Vishayair flights in 2022 compared to 2021 and an increase in the volume of foreign airlines, primarily low-cost airlines.

Israir flew 4.58% of all flights in Israel since the beginning of the year last year, this figure was 5.73% at the same time this year, a decrease of more than one percent. El Al's decrease is greater - last year El Al flew 23.81% of flights, while this year only 21.82%. Markie and El Al did not respond.

El Al stated: "After a significant service crisis that we experienced during the Corona virus due to the known circumstances, we expanded the range of our service channels and the hours of operation of the service representatives and these days we are available 24/6. The average waiting time has decreased significantly but we will continue to improve and excel for our customers. El Al invites The clientele to share any feedback by email: telloren@elal.co.il.

As for the prices, even in the summer of 2022 there were many customers who enjoyed favorable prices and in light of the high and unusual demand combined with the supply limitations, the last seats were sold at higher prices.

We reiterate that in order to benefit from favorable prices, you should book your flights ahead of time.
