Wolfratshausen – On the first of January, there will be a reusable obligation in gastronomy.
From the turn of the year, disposable tableware is no longer allowed in the catering trade.
This means that caterers, delivery services and restaurants will soon be obliged to offer reusable containers as an alternative to single-use containers for food and drinks to take away and order.
Annette Heinloth, the third mayor, announced that there should only be an exception for small businesses with a maximum of five employees and a maximum of 80 square meters of retail space.
The regulation is intended to stop the ever-growing mountains of rubbish: "In Wolfratshausen, we made it our task early on to motivate restaurateurs to offer reusable packaging and to establish as few different systems as possible in the city area."
The advantage is obvious: the more companies use the same system of deposit containers, the more likely it is that consumers will accept the offer.
"The more sustainable and future-proof local management is," says Heinloth.
9 bakeries, cafés and restaurants are currently participating.
