On video: Detention extension discussion for doctors suspected of trafficking in cannabis licenses (Walla system!)
The six senior doctors who were arrested on suspicion of trafficking in cannabis licenses were brought today (Monday) for an extension of their detention at the Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court, at the end of the undercover investigation that took place in recent months.
One of the suspects, psychiatrist Michael Janko, was suspected in 2018 of illegally giving prescriptions for narcotic drugs in exchange for a payment of hundreds of shekels.
He was interrogated under a warning and sent to house arrest.
Judge Noy Saban extended the detention of two suspects by nine days.
About one of the doctors, the police representative said that "he used his powers for the sake of money. We seized a large amount of money in a safe. The actions he did were not according to the procedures."
The judge said that there is a reasonable suspicion of crimes.
The police representative claimed at the hearing that "the doctors allegedly exceeded the public position given to them and used the license to carry out drug trafficking".
According to him, "there is a concrete fear of the disruption of the investigation and the danger arising from the crime of drug trafficking and the multiplicity of crimes."
The police asked to extend the detention of the doctors by 15 days, and their representative explained that they requested a relatively long extension of detention since they are planning many investigative actions.
"We are all in the market, they came to people's homes at 06:00 in the morning and arrested them. It actually seemed that they worked very orderly. It will probably end in nothing," said a friend of one of the arrested.
One of the suspects denied what was attributed to him.
"I have no network, nothing. I work alone. A network of drug dealers? I don't know what to say about that. I have children," he said in court.
"There is someone who complained and he needs to be thoroughly checked. You are talking about a network of crime. You are putting me in a network of crime. It did not exist and will not be created. This is an illusory situation."
In the trial it was said that one of the suspects gave a confession that "

Regarding another psychiatrist who is suspected in the case, the police representative claimed that "his part is very central".
According to him, "He took a sensitive profession and turned it into a trap to dig into when he commits criminal offenses, in a significant role that he plays, a person received dangerous drugs without his due. This while our license is suspended and he is not allowed to act as a doctor."
