Bernbeuren - The future supermarket in Schnitzerstadel could be a Nahkauf NieHof oHG.

Managing Director Gerd Nieth came to present his concept, with his ideas of a “small full-service provider” in his luggage.

The Munich architect of the usage concept, Peter Haimerl, also showed his latest additions.

Despite comprehensive information for the citizens present, there were again discussions about the "high mountain landscape parking lot", and other details were apparently not known.

Tools, electrical items and stationery should be available in the new "Nahkauf" when this is realized in two or three years.

Nieth described in detail what characterizes his Nahkauf stores.

He could imagine over 11,000 items, almost as many as a full-service provider and significantly more than any discounter in a very small area, plus opening times between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., possibly even 8 p.m.

In addition, a good dozen employees, including trainees.

It already looks something like this in the other Nahkauf and REWE stores that he runs in south-western Bavaria and Württemberg.

There would also be a post office in Bernbeuren under the roof of the market, as well as a butcher and a baker with their own café and conservatory.

When asked, Nieth assured that it was not least his idea that the market should move in on the upper floor.

There is no wall or pillar to spoil the shopping experience, in contrast to this, numerous walls would have to be removed in the former stable on the ground floor level;

but the warehouse for the 550 square meter sales area is to be built there.

Since the specifications of the monument protection are taken into account, the community could expect 2.4 million euros in grants, two thirds of the estimated construction costs.

Should Peter Haimerl go into the rescheduled parking situation, Mayor Karl Schleich had to point out that the planned "fill" to get to the upper floor is a local element and can still be seen in many courtyards.

Because apparently one or the other present was bothered by the embankment and the market on the upper floor.

And Schleich did not have to make it clear for the last time: If you want a local supplier, this is the only concept that can be implemented - financially and from the point of view of monument protection.

At this point, Nieth also emphasized that "we will not go in below".

According to the businessman, he likes the barn, which is why he is willing to sign a ten-year contract and contribute half a million euros to the conversion;

However, only if the project can be implemented by summer 2025.

The current planning resulted in about two new markets per year, Memmingen, Rammingen and Bidingen are currently being worked on, the Schnitzerstadel would have to start by 2024 at the latest in order to be able to open in spring, but at the latest in early summer 2025.

No "victory lap" was planned because of the listed building, assured Nieth and Schleich added that due to the municipal monument protection concept and the investigations already carried out, there was a "good head start".

However, it also became clear that the discussion about the future of the Schnitzerstadel is by no means as settled as Schleich had thought, but that there are still "rumblings everywhere".

Finally, the mayor said that something had to happen and that it was "a great story" if you could get the local purchase in the Schnitzerstadel.

If architect Haimerl only wanted to briefly present his additions or changes to the parking concept - part of the space will be on the ground floor level - the fact that Haimerl mentioned a possible future of the restaurant and beer garden was enough to start the discussion again allow.

Now, however, the focus was on the parking lot area, which resembled a high mountain range, as one or the other had probably imagined, as there are supposed to be “gradients” of up to three percent there.

On this hilly area, mothers with prams would have problems and the shopping trolleys, especially with older people, would develop a life of their own, so the fears before Haimerl clarified,

that every parking lot has a three percent gradient for drainage and a ramp for wheelchair users even has a six percent gradient.

And Haimerl emphasized that the 2.5 meter embankment was unavoidable from the point of view of the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments.
