Ex-Volkswagen boss Herbert Diess is to become the head of the supervisory board at Infineon next year.

The previous incumbent sees him as the "ideal candidate" for the successor.

Neubiberg – While Volkswagen boss Oliver Blume is meeting the VW shareholders at an extraordinary general meeting on Friday, there is also news from his predecessor: Former VW boss Herbert Diess is to become the new chairman of the supervisory board at the semiconductor group Infineon.

Herbert Diess is to become the head of the supervisory board at Infineon

The previous incumbent, Wolfgang Eder, will no longer stand for election to the Supervisory Board at the Annual General Meeting on February 16, as Infineon announced on Friday.

For this purpose, Diess is to be newly elected to the committee and then to be appointed chairman by the Supervisory Board.

"Now is the right time to make changes to the supervisory board," said Eder, who has held the post since 2019.

In view of the "very challenging environment", he is pleased that Herbert Diess is the "ideal candidate" for the successor.

"He knows the company and the industrial environment very well." The automotive industry is the largest customer of the company from Neubiberg near Munich.

Infineon: Record figures in the past fiscal year

In addition to Eder, Hans-Ulrich Holdenried will no longer stand for the Supervisory Board.

The former Siemens manager Klaus Helmrich was named as another new candidate.

Infineon CEO Jochen Hanebeck praised Diess and Helmrich as "recognized experts for the major issues that will determine the future of our business".

Infineon had already presented the figures for the past fiscal year in November.

The bottom line is that the semiconductor group increased its profits by 86 percent to 2.2 billion euros.

Revenue rose 29 percent to $14.2 billion.

Both are record values.
