St 2011/A96 AS Erkheim Süd: Changed traffic routing in the crossing area from the direction of Westerheim

Watch out: From the beginning of January there will be new traffic routing in the area of ​​the intersection for the community connecting road from Westerheim.

Erkheim - At the beginning of January 2023, the Kempten State Building Authority will adjust the traffic routing at the junction (AS) Erkheim Süd A 96, in the area of ​​the municipal connecting road.

Here, traffic coming from Westerheim is prohibited from driving directly onto the A 96 in the direction of Munich and from turning left in the direction of Erkheim.

This is intended to increase traffic safety and reduce the number of accidents.

Depending on the weather, the work will be carried out as soon as possible.

For the work, the junction will be temporarily closed on one side, so that traffic will be diverted to one side.

The AS Erkheim was already conspicuous as an accident frequency in the recording period from 2015 to 2017.

The current evaluation of the accident sequences by the accident commission, consisting of the Unterallgäu traffic authority, the Mindelheim police station and the Kempten state building authority, shows a recurring accident pattern for the period from 2018 to 2022.

In 10 out of 12 accidents, the cause of the accident was a turning/crossing road coming from the community connecting road in the direction of Westerheim.

Within a year, six people were slightly injured and one person was seriously injured, as well as damage to property amounting to 130,000 euros.

In order to minimize the occurrence of accidents in a timely manner, the number of priority driving relationships should be reduced.

As a result, the direct access to the A 96 in the direction of Munich and turning left in the direction of Erkheim will be prevented for traffic coming from Westerheim as part of the immediate measure.

Road users must therefore turn right onto Staatsstraße 2011 and drive to the roundabout south of AS Erkheim.

From there, all directions/destinations can be approached again.

In addition to the new traffic routing, the vehicle restraint systems will be set back at the level of the underpass.

As a result, visibility in the north direction can be optimized and road safety significantly increased.
