A series of burglaries over the New Year shook the district of Ebersberg.

Unknown perpetrators climbed into three buildings last weekend.

Police reacted with more patrol checks.

District – The past New Year's Eve weekend called the police in the Ebersberg district not only because of arson, alcohol abuse and bodily harm.

The officers from the Poing Police Inspectorate were also deployed because of three burglaries in the northern district.

During the night of December 31, a previously unknown person gained access to a bus company in Markt Schwaben through a tilted window.

According to the police report, the perpetrator ransacked the office building and stole cash and several company cell phones.

The damage amounts to 1500 euros.

Burglaries are similar in the way the perpetrators proceed

Apparently also on the night before New Year's Eve, a stranger broke into an apartment in an apartment building in Poinger Erikaweg.

The perpetrator entered the apartment via the terrace area.

The damage amounts to almost 1000 euros.

What the thief was able to capture during his robbery is still unclear.

The PI Poing reports a burglary with a similar procedure as in Poing from New Year's Eve: An unknown perpetrator broke into a single-family house in Markt Schwaben through the basement shaft.

To do this, the burglar – probably with several tools – levered open the grating over the cellar shaft on the terrace.

The chain to which the trellis was attached was snapped off and thrown into the garden.

In the basement shaft, the perpetrator then first tried to break open the window there.

When that didn't work, he smashed the window.

By then, according to the report, the unknown had caused damage of around 500 euros.

Unknown persons stole around 6,000 euros in a burglary in Markt Schwaben

Arriving in the house, the perpetrator cleared out several cupboards and drawers.

According to PI Poing, the thief stole a Christmas card and 6,000 euros in cash from a chest of drawers.

The perpetrator also stole the resident's wallet.

Meanwhile, the family living there celebrated the turn of the year with friends.

According to the current state of knowledge, the Poing Police Inspection is not connected to the burglaries.

However, a connection cannot be ruled out.

"We're just waiting for the results of the DNA analysis," explains Police Chief Inspector Markus Stocker.

This is intended to provide information as to whether it is the beginning of a series of burglaries and whether several perpetrators are responsible for the night-time crimes.

Winter months as a time of burglaries

The fact that there have recently been more break-ins in the district, such as on December 30 in two neighboring houses in Kirchseeon (we reported), is "completely natural" for the Poinger chief inspector.

Burglars are particularly active in the winter months because of the relatively short daylight hours.

"And when people are visiting relatives at Christmas or New Year's Eve, that's like a high time for burglars," Stocker continues.

However, the current slumps only seem so sudden because of the effects of the corona pandemic.

"In recent years, there have simply been a lot of people at home," explains Ebersberg's police chief, Ulrich Milius.

“Many were in the home office and fewer people simply went on vacation.” That made work more difficult for burglars.

The result: a significant decrease in burglaries in the district as part of the restrictions imposed by the pandemic.

Police reacted with controls

In the meantime, however, more normality has returned.

Nevertheless, police chief Milius does not expect an increase in burglaries.

Because the police stations in Ebersberg and Poing are prepared for this: "We're doing more priority checks in winter," emphasizes Poinger Chief Inspector Stocker.

This means that the officers often drive through residential areas at dusk and at night.

This is done either directly with the patrol car or in civilian clothes.

"We're mainly on the lookout for conspicuous people with backpacks," explains Stocker.

Nevertheless, the district residents should also take precautions to protect against burglaries.

"It's often enough to leave a light on," advises the police officer.
