News for parents:

Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich decided today (Thursday) to adopt the benefit given by the previous government and to continue the increased subsidy in the "Nitsanim" program for after-school programs for children aged 3-8, in the amount of approximately NIS 250 per month per child for two additional months.

The total payment to parents will be 50 to 100 shekels per month per student in socioeconomic clusters 4 and 5.

For a family with two children, this is a saving of about NIS 1,000 in these two months.

About 60 thousand children will benefit from the benefit.

Minister Smotrich's office stated that the intention is to continue the budgeting until the end of the school year, as part of the approval of the state budget.

The directive to subsidize the after-school programs in cities in clusters 4-5 expired on January 1st, so thousands of parents from many cities, such as Ashdod, Tiberias and Bat Yam, were supposed to pay NIS 250 more for each child in the after-school program.

The benefit began in March last year, as part of the previous government's economic plan to reduce the cost of living.

"The cost of living in Israel is felt in every home," said the Minister of Finance.

"My first steps in the ministry were aimed at making it easier for the citizens of Israel. The after-school subsidy is a right and just step and therefore it should be continued in 2023 as well. The budget is coming, and it will include many reforms. Before our eyes are the citizens of Israel and the economy of the State of Israel. With God's help, we will preserve the fiscal framework, We will draw up a responsible budget that is biased toward growth and infrastructure, and at the same time we will protect the citizens of Israel. I thank the professionals at the Ministry of Finance who mobilized for a quick solution to the problem."

Uri Makleb, deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Transportation, said: "The end of the after-school subsidy has oppressed many parents and raised their price by hundreds of shekels. I congratulate Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich who immediately decided to continue the subsidy in light of the urgency of the matter and now a solution is due. The Minister of Finance has acted with determination and speed for the sake of the citizens and we congratulate him for that. This is another part of the government's activity against the cost of living."
