Dear friends of chess, allow me at the beginning of 2023 to wish you an excellent year.
Is it a happy omen, the current undisputed master of our favorite game, Magnus Carlsen, started it in the best possible way by wearing a new double crown of world champion in rapid games and blitz, gleaned in Uzbekistan between Christmas and New Year's Day.
The blitz or lightning game is the reserved domain of the Norwegian genius.
Like Mikhaïl Tal, Bobby Fischer and Vishy Anand, his most illustrious predecessors, Carlsen possesses to the highest degree the essential qualities to shine in this form of game. Nerves of steel, vision of almost instantaneous combinations, exemplary positional control and almost superhuman technique at the end of the game, such are the assets of the great blitzers and of course of the great Scandinavian master.
