After the New Year's Eve riots, Berlin's governing mayor Franziska Giffey announced a "concerted action" against youth violence and further spending on social work in the millions.
Specifically, the SPD politician named four points after a summit with experts on Wednesday: more intensive social work with parents' homes, more extracurricular youth social work, new "places for young people" and consistent criminal prosecution.
Berlin - Concepts should be worked out and the financial requirements clarified by another meeting on February 22nd.
Giffey announced a Senate resolution for March.
The money for this should be mobilized from the budget.
The repeat election to the House of Representatives on February 12 should not stop the process.
The Senate is fully capable of acting until a new state government is formed, said Giffey.
Giffey called the New Year's Eve riots with attacks on police officers, firefighters and rescue workers a turning point.
Things cannot simply go on as before.
A “joint effort” is needed to gain more respect in the city.
Giffey had invited around two dozen experts to the summit against youth violence, including representatives from politics, the police, the public prosecutor's office and the judiciary, as well as from integration and social work.
