Today, China urged the United States and Japan not to become agents of destabilization in the Asia-Pacific region, and to stop creating imaginary enemies and trying to sow the seeds of a new cold war in this region.
Commenting on a joint statement issued by the United States and Japan regarding cooperation between them, Xinhua quoted Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin as saying during a press conference today: “The wording of China in this joint statement stems strongly from the mentality of the Cold War, and contains allegations against China is baseless.”
Wang called on the two countries to abandon this mentality, ideological bias, stop creating imaginary enemies and trying to sow the seeds of a new cold war in the Asia-Pacific region, explaining that the United States and Japan claim to uphold the rules-based international order, but what they are doing is bypassing international law. And the basic norms that govern international relations and blatant interference in the internal affairs of other countries.
Noting that the Asia-Pacific region is an anchor for peace and development, not an arena for geopolitical competition, Wang stressed that the countries in the region are for justice and against hegemony, and they hope for cooperation rather than confrontation, and look forward to true multilateralism.
It is noteworthy that the United States and Japan issued a joint statement describing China as the greatest strategic challenge in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.
