The American company, Alphabet, the owner of Google, announced today the abandonment of about 12,000 jobs worldwide, thus becoming the last American giant technology company to undergo a large-scale restructuring.
“We have decided to reduce our workforce by about 12,000 jobs, and these cuts are in response to the changing economic reality,” CEO Sundar Pichai said in an email to employees, according to Agence France-Presse.
"The impact of these changes on the lives of Google employees weighs heavily on me, and I take full responsibility for the decisions that lead us here," Pichai added.
This step comes two days after Microsoft announced that it will lay off about 10,000 employees in the coming months, after similar steps taken by “Meta”, “Amazon” and “Twitter”, while the technology sector is facing a significant economic slowdown.
