The 152nd session of the Executive Council of the World Health Organization will start tomorrow in Geneva, with the participation of Syria, and will continue until the 7th of next month.

The agenda of the session includes reorienting health systems towards primary health care as an impregnable basis for universal health coverage, preparations for the high-level meeting of the United Nations General Assembly on universal health coverage, promoting rehabilitation in health systems and the global roadmap to defeat meningitis by 2030, and other topics. related to.

In a statement to SANA, the head of the Syrian delegation, Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghobash, confirmed that the participants in the session will discuss topics related to public health issues at the global level, including the draft global strategy on infection prevention and control, unifying the names of medical devices, classifying them, coding them, standardizing their names internationally, and strengthening preparedness. The organization and its response to health emergencies, and the ability to withstand them.

Dr. Al-Ghobash pointed out the importance of participation to enhance cooperation with its positive effects on the health situation in Syria, in addition to exchanging health expertise and experiences among the participating countries.

It is noteworthy that the World Health Assembly unanimously elected Syria in May 2021, during its seventy-fourth session, for membership in the Executive Council of the World Health Organization, representing the Eastern Mediterranean Region, for a period of three years.

The Executive Board is one of the three constituent organs of the World Health Organization, along with the General Secretariat and the World Health Assembly. Its terms of reference include considering nominations for the Director-General, appointing regional directors in agreement with the regional committees, and studying the WHO program budget.
