The pharmaceutical manufacturer MSD Tiergesundheit wants to expand its production and is looking to talk to its neighbors.

The pharmaceutical manufacturer MSD Tiergesundheit wants to expand its production and is looking to talk to its neighbors.

Unterschleißheim – Around 100 people are finding out about the company's expansion plans on the premises of the pharmaceutical company MSD Tiergesundheit in Unterschleißheim.

For two hours, employees of the company and the city administration answer the questions of the residents: "What emissions can be expected?", "When will the building be finished?", "What kind of medicines do you produce here?"

MSD employee Jochen Stöhr, who is coordinating the new building, is happy about the rush.

"We produce 50 to 60 animal medicines, including insulin for dogs and cats," he explains at the information table in the tent that has been set up.

In most cases, these are liquid medicines in bottles for two to 500 milliliters.

"Most are manufactured sterile, they must not contain any microorganisms, which is why we work under the highest hygiene standards."

400 highly qualified employees

The pharmaceutical manufacturer has been producing in Unterschleißheim since 1959.

He has been part of the MSD Group since 2009.

The company employs 400 highly qualified staff.

"We need hot water and steam for production, at the moment we heat with gas - like most people here in the district," Stöhr answers the question about emissions: "But we are not sure which energy source will be used in the future", is for heating Geothermal an option.

The company is reaching its limits in the existing buildings, because the production volume has doubled in the past 20 years.

"We want to expand, maintain the production site in Lohhof, secure jobs and involve the neighbors in our planning," says Stöhr.

MSD recently acquired the site of the adjacent Reka cardboard factory, which has since been demolished.

The exterior work on the new building is scheduled to be completed in 2025.

"Highest social and environmental standards"

An elderly lady asks if there is any hazardous waste water.

Stöhr reassures her: "We already meet the highest social and environmental standards and want to improve even further."

MSD is building a four- to five-story car park for its employees on the opposite side of Südliche Ingolstädter Strasse: "This takes the pressure off parking in the residential area." Green areas and a PV system are planned on the roof of the new production hall.

There is an intensive exchange in and in front of the tent.

The atmosphere is lively and friendly.

Franz Salzmann, who is MSD's direct neighbor on Feldstrasse, thinks it's good that the company has already responded to his request in the initial consultations and is building the production hall a few meters back.

The structure is also set back three meters from the property line along the Theresienbogen.

The distance to the residential buildings is greater than before to the cardboard box factory.

Gabriele and Michael Mrosek ask how construction site traffic is handled.

“Via Südliche Ingolstädter Strasse,” says Stöhr, pointing to the street plan where the new truck access will be.

This relieves the residential area of truck traffic.

Residents can use “Consul” to comment on possible facades

Mayor Christoph Böck is also looking for a conversation.

In order to improve the coexistence of working and living, the city will plant greenery and trees behind the 158 meter long hall at the Theresienbogen.

"The company has a long tradition in Unterschleißheim," said Böck beforehand in the press conference, "we want to help it to develop further at the location." It praises the fact that local residents can contribute their interests.

The city provides the Consul voting platform for this purpose.

Here, citizens can, among other things, comment on various design proposals for the façade.

"We want to pick everyone up," says Böck.
