However, after checking the register of personal interests of district councilors, Yang declared that he owns a residential property in Kai Tak Central and South, Kowloon City, which aroused suspicion of conflict of interest.
He explained on Thursday night (2nd) that the bureau has promised that the simple public housing will not be renewed after five years, which makes him feel the goodwill of the authorities, so he believes that the "negotiation strategy" can be "received" if it is successful.
He also believes that the cancellation of the rally has nothing to do with conflict of interest, emphasizing that he only speaks for the residents.
"If this is already a conflict of interest, then I have nothing to say about the Shatin to Central Link, Kai Tak development, and the cruise terminal."

Controversy over the site selection of simple public housing Kai Tak has intensified. District Councilor Yang Yongjie, who is also a member of the Legislative Council, seems to have failed to obtain the consent of all residents after withdrawing the application for the assembly on Wednesday (1st).

Owners' committees and resident representatives of more than a dozen private buildings in Kai Tak held a joint meeting on Thursday night (2nd) to discuss follow-up actions.

Yang Yongjie responded to "Hong Kong 01" in the evening and explained that the Housing Bureau will inspect the idle land in To Kwa Wan and Kowloon Bay with him to study the alternative location of Kai Tak before making the decision to cancel the application for the rally.
At the same time, the bureau also responded on the Facebook page that the simple public housing will not be renewed after five years, which made him feel more "goodwill and reassurance" from the authorities, so he "accepted the goods".
Yang expressed that he was not worried about the housing bureau's backlash, and emphasized that he would continue to question the bureau at the public works group meeting next Wednesday (8th).
He believes that the Secretary will make another commitment, and there will be a record of the meeting in black and white.
Yang also pointed out that in different groups in the district, it has been observed that the demands of the residents are indeed different, and the main concern is that simple public housing will become normalized.
However, he believed that it was because of the application for the rally that the authorities could be forced to respond. He believed that the team's "negotiation strategy" was successful, and after considering the opinions of different residents, he decided to cancel the rally.

As for the address declared in the Register of Members’ Personal Interests, Yang Yongjie revealed that the unit had been purchased as an off-plan property in 2018 and has been occupied so far, emphasizing that he understands the views of residents.
He also clarified that the decision to withdraw the rally application had nothing to do with conflicts of interest, "I myself do not think there is any conflict of interest."
Yang said that he personally supports the government's construction of simple public housing, but he said that he has the dual identities of the Legislative Council and the District Council, and he should speak out for the residents, emphasizing that it is not only about his personal affairs.
