Seventeen trade associations have written to the mayor of Lyon and the president of the metropolis to express their "

disappointment

" with the pedestrianization of rue de la République.

A measure announced at the beginning of January by Grégory Doucet who had mentioned the possibility of making the whole of the street pedestrian, including the section between rue Grenette and the Hôtel-de-Ville, the only part still accessible today to transport by common and taxis.

"

The result of the consultation is that more than 60% of those questioned are in favor of rue de la République becoming entirely pedestrian

", declared the city councilor EELV.

This announcement comes as the consultation process is still underway regarding the “Presqu'île à Vivre” project;

the results of the consultation should indeed be returned in February 2023

”, deplore the associations of traders.

Indeed, this consultation ended in October 2022 and the city of Lyon should announce its plan for

the "appeasement

" of the Peninsula by the end of February.

"quick wins"

According to the signatories, the closure of rue Grenette, the only west-east lane in the north of the peninsula, and the abolition of public transport services on rue de la République could "

endanger the balance between residents, independent shops, brands and companies present with a degraded image of the overall accessibility of the whole territory, reinforcing the external consumption centers

”.

And to add: “

These postponements would penalize the service of the district of the town hall and will eliminate the correspondences between important bus lines and line C of the metro, strongly degrading the accessibility of the Croix Rousse.

»

My Presqu'île, the main association of merchants in downtown Lyon, called on "

the mayor of Lyon and the president of the metropolis of Lyon to reassess the different scenarios presented within the framework of the 'Presqu'île à Vivre' project. and open dialogue with associations to truly co-construct calming scenarios that bring positive dynamics to our territories.

»

If we do not yet know what project will be made public by the end of the month, the mayor of Lyon has explained that he wants to put in place a "

quick wins" method: "That is to say to start by sites where it can be done quickly

”.

The signatory

associations: Traders Association Former Prefecture, Accor Victor Hugo Association, Carré Romarin Association, La Vitrine des Pentes Association, Gambetta Commerces Association, Croix Rousse Le Village Association, My Presqu'île Association, So Vieux Lyon Association, Vaise Center 9 Association, Mercière Dubois association, Lyon Coté Croix Rousse association, CIL Center Presqu'île association, CIL Renaissance Vieux Lyon association, Célestins Demain association, Habiter Rue Mercière association, CIL Sud Presqu'île-Confluence association, CIL association "La Croix Rousse n'est not to sell"
