An overwhelmed security service, riots and aggression against the police: These and more are the sad facts after a carnival parade in the Upper Palatinate.
Köfering – After a carnival parade on Saturday, February 18, in Köfering, district of Regensburg, around 2,000 people wanted to continue partying in a nearby location.
However, the hall planned for this was only designed for around 600 people.
There was a riot.
Riots after the carnival parade: too many party guests for a hall that is too small
As the police reported on Sunday, February 19, the security service called the police after the rush to the party location became too great.
The approximately 1,000 guests who were waiting outside in front of the hall pushed more and more vehemently to be admitted when the weather was bad.
Because of the limited capacity, however, people were backed up, crowding and rioting ensued.
Isolated emergency calls due to panic reactions were also reported, but mass panic or the like did not break out.
The police officers, some of whom came from Regensburg, interrupted the celebration and tried to bring the chaos under control.
A party guest behaved aggressively towards the officers and resisted, he had to be tied up.
Another man filmed the scene and is now facing criminal charges.

Police interrupt party after carnival parade: Comparatively mild end
Ultimately, however, the situation ended quite lightly, after the police had brought the situation under control, the party guests were able to continue partying - within the permitted capacity of the hall.
Thomas Rölz, Head of the Neutraubling Police Inspectorate, commented to vifogra: "The good news, however, is that we have not heard of any injuries so far, there have been no panic situations and no police officers have been attacked or injured
