With the participation of 70 school health doctors, health educators, and psychological and social counselors in the Directorate of Education in Aleppo Governorate, a course (Psychological First Aid to provide support to people in the aftermath of the crisis) was opened today, which is being held at the Shahba Hotel in Aleppo, in cooperation between the Ministry of Education (Directorate of School Health) and the World Health Organization.
Trainer Eyas Tamim from the World Health Organization (Mental Health Office in Aleppo) stated in a statement to SANA reporter that the course aims to review the principles of psychological first aid, reactions to the traumatic event (earthquake), and instructions for dealing with some special groups such as the elderly, women and children, as well as cases of anger. Panic, insomnia, children with disabilities, and guidance to help parents and support children.
The head of the Counseling Division, Lama Ashalem, explained that the course contributes to training psychological and social counselors on rapid intervention during emergencies and crises, how to deal with special cases and affected people, taking into account individual differences, in addition to the method of selecting cases that need intervention and providing appropriate support to affected people.
In order to alleviate psychological distress, provide them with care and support, estimate their needs and meet them, dispel their fears, and teach them how to take care of themselves to achieve balance and mental health in their lives.
