Starting in March 2023, millions of Americans will receive less money in food stamps from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).
This is because a hunger relief program ends due to the covid-19 pandemic.
Who will be most affected by the loss of food stamps in the US?
What can you buy with food stamps?
SNAP states on its website that recipients can purchase the following products with the coupons:
advertising
Fruits and vegetables
Meat, chicken and fish
Dairy products
Bread and cereals
Other food, such as snacks and non-alcoholic drinks
Seeds and plants for the production of food for the home
Now, this is
what you can't buy with coupons:
Beer, wine, spirits, cigarettes or tobacco
Vitamins, medicines and supplements.
If an item has a Supplement Facts label, it is considered a supplement and is not eligible for purchase with SNAP coupons.
Live animals (except shellfish, fish taken from water, and animals slaughtered prior to store pickup)
Hot foods at the point of sale
pet food
Cleaning supplies, paper products, and other household items.
Hygiene articles, cosmetics
