More say in town hall planning: This is what the Rottach-Egern development and protection association demands.

The initiative has met with a response - and is planning further steps.

Rottach-Egern

– Stefan Berghammer's phone is ringing a lot at the moment.

"We're running in open doors," says the Rottacher.

He believes that a large number of citizens would like to have a say in the construction of the new town hall.

In order to find out how many supporters there really are, the promotion and protection association Rottach-Egern, which he and Marco Zimmermann founded, will put out lists next week.

“We are currently preparing them,” reports Berghammer.

Anyone who supports the demand for the municipal council and mayor to get the citizens on board with the planning – and to rethink it – can register.

As reported, the two submitted a list of questions to the town hall at the end of February.

It is a reaction to the public presentation of the first draft for a new building.

The municipal council had quietly decided to demolish the house with the striking clock tower.

The first sketch of the new building seems very sober and expensive to many.

11.5 million euros are estimated.

“The landmark Clock Tower is very important to people”

The questions mainly revolve around whether the costs are proportionate, so much space is needed and the clock tower cannot be preserved.

Many callers, reports Berghammer, are of the opinion that a refurbishment of the old building that characterizes the area would be a better way than demolition and new construction.

"The landmark clock tower is very important to many people."

The idea of a referendum is in the air.

"But we're still waiting," says Berghammer, referring to the presentation of facade designs announced by Mayor Christian Köck at the municipal council meeting on March 28 and at the citizens' meeting on March 30.

The latter in particular will be decisive for further action, Berghammer announced.

He hopes to speak there.

The request is on the agenda for the next council meeting

Mayor Köck took a position at a press conference in the town hall shortly after receiving the catalog of questions.

He assured that the plans would be carefully developed.

Not only on March 28, but already at the municipal council meeting on Tuesday, March 7, starting at 7 p.m. in the town hall, Köck will make the request of the support and protection association a topic.

According to Köck, the architects are currently working on the facade planning in coordination with the municipality.

By the end of March he will be able to present "something presentable", he announces: "Then tempers will calm down again."
