Nine women have been murdered since the beginning of 2023, three of them in just the last eight days, four of them by their spouses, and one of them by her brother.

The three murdered are Adisi Albana from Kiryat Ata, Vera Pelzita, 61, from Tel Aviv, who was hit in the head and died of her injuries after being hospitalized for a week, and Daria Leitel, who was beaten to death in her apartment in Haifa while her children were at home.

Furthermore, two other women were saved from murder attempts - the first is Adel Masha, whose ex-husband forced her, poured gasoline on her and burned her.

The second is a young woman whose partner punctured the tires of her car, broke the key while she was locked in the car and he threatens to kill her.

Chairman Naamat Hagit Par (photo: Yehtz)

The chairman of Naamat, Hagit Par, claims that the new government has led to a difficult conversation with women: "It starts with the coalition agreements that they signed that Israel would not join the Istanbul Convention, which could have addressed the prevention of violence against women.

It starts with education - that there is no progress here and certainly the shackle law, which would have helped at least some of the women, or at least given them a normative life so that they would not have to flee to shelters.

" ", Parr explained. "False complaints are marginal cases, it cannot be given priority in the discussion.

Sometimes the problem is that there are events of version against version between the man and the woman, and therefore the case is closed - this does not mean that there was a false complaint.

The minister gives the same weight to men and women victims of violence, even though this is not supported by the data."

Farr says that awareness is much higher today than before, so women know how to recognize violent relationships, but the last few months have been extremely difficult.

"The government decided not to deal with the essential things of women's daily lives. We are not on their agenda at all. More women have been murdered this year than women around the government table. We have not yet found partners in the current coalition, but we will not stop looking for them. This is the order of the hour."

Tal Hochman, director of government relations at the women's lobby, added: "Eight women have been murdered since the beginning of the year. This is a very worrying trend compared to previous years. And yet, the issue of violence against women has been pushed to the bottom of the government's priorities. The last time a comprehensive government study was done on the issue of domestic violence was in - 2001, already more than 20 years ago. To this day, there is no government body that monitors the murder cases. We have reached an absurd situation where officials in the government and the media turn to us, the women's lobby, in order to get information."

"We see that the current government is also not interested in violence against women - and repeatedly chooses to block moves designed to combat the phenomenon. First, the government's stubborn refusal not to sign the international convention to combat violence against women. Second, the electronic handcuff law that the coalition overthrew last week. A law whose entire purpose It was to guarantee women who are at risk the safety they deserve. A law that saves lives, and changes lives. We are calling on the Minister of National Security to apply the law consecutively this week. We must not wait for the next murder, the government must act now," concludes Hochman.
