Nuremberg – Since February 2023 there have been several burglaries in the Franconian metropolis and its neighboring city.

The crimes had a few things in common: mostly ground floor or mezzanine flats were looted.

The perpetrators of the burglaries often caused considerable damage to property.

"The booty was usually comparatively small," explains the police in Central Franconia.

Burglar couple responsible for robbery

The securing of evidence at the crime scenes and "extensive criminal police measures" strengthened the suspicion that one and the same perpetrator could be responsible for more than a dozen cases.

Finally, the police found what they were looking for: "The suspicion is directed against a 27-year-old woman and a 44-year-old man." On Saturday evening, the investigators managed to arrest the suspects at the Behringersdorf train station.

The 44-year-old man and the 27-year-old woman do not have a permanent address.

However, the police investigation then revealed that the burglar couple had made themselves comfortable in a shelter in a forest area near Behringersdorf.

Burglars had made themselves quite comfortable

The hiding place consisted of two tents, a seating area covered with plastic sheeting made of sawn tree trunks, a suitcase on wheels and hiding places under roots.

"A check by police forces led to the discovery of several items that are believed to be stolen goods from previous burglaries," the police said.

The public prosecutor's office in Nuremberg-Fürth filed an application for arrest against the two suspects.

An investigating judge has since issued an arrest warrant.
