On Tuesday evening, residents of the Gaza Strip found the body of fisherman Rami Bakr in the sea opposite the Shati refugee camp. Bakr has been missing since last Saturday after he disappeared off the coast of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.
According to the Palestinians, an Egyptian naval vessel blocked a fishing boat in the southern part of the sea in Gaza on Saturday. On board were two fishermen, residents of the Gaza Strip, from the Bakr family. Following the collision, one of the fishermen, Muhammad Bakr, survived. He sustained moderate injuries and required medical treatment.
The other fisherman who was with him, Rami Bahar, has been missing since the incident and lost contact with him. Today, as mentioned, he was found dead. After being pulled from the sea, his body was transferred to Shifa Hospital in Gaza City, which was identified by his family. The head of the fishermen's union in Gaza, Nizar Ayash, condemned "the harsh attitude of the Egyptian forces towards the fishermen during their fishing work at sea."

Such incidents occur from time to time when fishing boats from Gaza exceed the permissible fishing zone. The Egyptian navy operates in the southern area of the maritime area bordering the coast of the Gaza Strip to thwart arms smuggling to Sinai.
This is not the first time that there have been reports of a confrontation at sea between fishermen and the Egyptian naval force. Two years ago, two Palestinians from Gaza, fishermen Mahmoud Az'ud and his brother Hassan, were killed by Egyptian naval ship. Another brother was arrested and released 4 months later. Following the incident, the leadership of the fishermen's union in the Gaza Strip protested and announced the closure of the sea to fishing for two days. There was also criticism in Gaza, claiming that "Egyptian forces could have resorted to other means before opening fire on the fishermen."
