An Israeli man, killed Wednesday in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, was fatally attacked by compatriots during a "dispute between families", Dubai police said Thursday, announcing the arrest of eight Israelis. The wealthy Gulf emirate has attracted many tourists from the Jewish state, since the establishment of official diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2020.
Dubai police said they had "apprehended eight Israelis involved in the fatal assault of a 33-year-old man of the same nationality, Ghassan Shamsyeh." The fatal attack, which took place Wednesday in central Dubai, "stems from a dispute between two families," she said in a statement.
Using a sharp object
The eight suspects in custody "had arrived from a European country for tourism," Dubai police added, indicating that the attack took place in a café where a violent confrontation "resulted in the death of the victim due to the use of a sharp object".
