Sheep and lambs are simply part of the dikes in Schleswig-Holstein. The wool of the new star on Sylt already looks like a sweater, then it will certainly be a nice wool sweater, right? "Oh, that's what the sweater wool is made from. Have you found the sock sheep yet? I still need a little sock wool," asks a user on Facebook jokingly.

Many celebrities prefer to remain unrecognized on Sylt and camouflage themselves with sunglasses and a cap. But the island's new star is anything but camera-shy.

Sylt – Dunes, sunsets and the lighthouses of Sylt are popular photo motifs on the North Sea island. For a few months now, the island has been enriched by a very sweet attraction: the "sweater sheep". Numerous pictures of the cute islander have already been posted on social media. For a few weeks now, the dike lambs have been romping around on Sylt, but none of them has such a special coat pattern as the new star on the island.

Sweater sheep from Sylt: fur drawing a whim of nature

Sheep and lambs are simply part of the dikes in Schleswig-Holstein and on Sylt. Most of them are white to grey – depending on how much sand, earth and silt they have just come into contact with. In between, of course, the famous "black sheep" should not be missing. And for some of the dike dwellers, nature could not decide on a color - as with the Sylt "sweater sheep". It looks like it's pulled a black sweater over its white fur.

"The drawing comes from the trestle that covered the mother," explains Daniela Petersen when asked by 24hamburg.de. He has a mother who has a drawing like a cow. This is how lambs are born that have different markings – a whim of nature." Petersen is the operator of "Sheep of Sylt" and sells products related to Sylt sheep and lambs. The sheep – including the "sweater sheep" – come from the Höst farm of Jan-Uwe Andersen from Sylt.

"It makes your heart beat faster": Sylt's "sweater sheep" inspires walkers

While the maritime light objects that glitter in Westerland's city park are not everyone's cup of tea, the cute lambs on the Sylt dikes delight young and old. Especially the "sweater sheep" with its special drawing has done it to holidaymakers and locals alike. Numerous pictures are posted on the net and cause enthusiasm from "beautiful" to "cute". "Mei, it makes your heart beat faster," says a user from southern Germany happily. "He's probably cool and that's why he's put on a sweater," speculates another with a wink.

By the way, in order to protect the "sweater sheep" and its conspecifics, leashes are compulsory not only during the breeding and setting season in Schleswig-Holstein, but all year round on the dikes. But what about the great interest of the two-legged island guests in the new dike dweller? "It feels like 8000 photos are taken of it every day. In each group... Wat a stress. If it could, it would certainly take off its sweater," one user believes. But the lamb doesn't seem to mind all the media hype, says Daniela Petersen from "Sheep of Sylt" - and is happy about the beautiful pictures.

What happens to the special wool from the Sylt "sweater sheep"

If the wool of the new star on the celebrity island of Sylt already looks like a sweater, then it will certainly be a nice wool sweater, right? "Oh, that's what the sweater wool is made from. Have you found the sock sheep yet? I still need a little sock wool," asks a user on Facebook jokingly.

Sheep are usually sheared in early summer, their wool spun or processed into wool felt. But what do you actually do with multicolored wool? "Normally, the white wool is separated from the dark wool during shearing," explains Daniela Petersen. But from the drawing of the "sweater sheep" you should make something special. "Maybe a felt project as a whole fleece or in parts," says the wool expert. One can be curious.
