Champions League: Atalanta follows City into the round of 16

Atalanta is one more round after a direct duel with Schachtar Donetsk. A terse referee decision ushered in the success.

Atalanta was the sensation succeeded: The Italians have won on the last day of the Champions League against Schachtar Donetsk and pull despite three defeats to start the group stage first in the second round. Timothy Castagne (66th minute), Mario Pasalic (80th) and Robin Gosens (90 + 4) scored the goals for the debutants in the premier class.

The goal of Atalantas Castagne was also shown by the linesman as an offside position (66.). The video chiri, however, revised the decision. Just before the end, Pasalic and Gosens secured their place in the last sixteen with their goals for the 3-0 final score.

Donetsk finished the group stage in third place (six points) and are still in the Europa League.

Manchester City was the only team in Group C to be in the Round of 16 and also won the second leg against Zagreb. Because Bergamo won against Donetsk, Zagreb slipped to the last place (five points) and thus missed his chance for the Europa League.

The Croats surprised Manchester already in the 10th minute: Petar Stojanovic crossed to Dani Olmo, the keeper Claudio Bravo with his volley from close range did not give a chance. City equalized before the break, as Gabriel Jesus headed from ten meters left into the corner (34th). The goal remained with the home side not without protest, because Emir Dilaver was during the attack on the ground.
