Italian club Juventus announced the appointment of former star Andrea Pirlo as technical director of the club for a period of two years, succeeding former coach Mauricio Sarri.
Juventus said in a statement today, "Starting today, Pirlo will be the coach of the Juventus team, as the club has decided to assign him the technical leadership of the first team after having already chosen Juventus under 23 years and the choice of today depends on the belief that Pirlo has what it takes to lead from his first appearance on the bench."
The club pointed out that Pirlo has a legendary career as a soccer player, winning all the titles from the European Champions League to the World Cup in 2006 in the four years he spent in leading the Juventus midfield and also won many League titles, the Italian Cup and the Super Cup twice.
Juventus had sacked coach Sarri from his post as coach of the first team earlier today, a few hours after Juventus were out of the Champions League final eighth round.
