The Los Angeles Clippers have split from coach Doc Rivers after their disappointing performance in the NBA playoffs.
The basketball team around the stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George had started as a candidate for the playoffs, but failed in the semifinals of the Western Conference on the Denver Nuggets.
Initially, ESPN had reported on the separation, there was no official club announcement for the time being.
Instead, Rivers turned to fans with a message posted on Twitter.
"I have achieved most of my goals, but I will not be able to achieve all of them," he wrote.
Only during the night did the team confirm that Rivers will no longer be a coach.
3: 4 after 3: 1
The Clippers had already led 3: 1 against the Nuggets in the Best Of Seven series, but lost 3: 4 in the end.
As a result, they missed the much-anticipated conference finals in the west against the Los Angeles Lakers.
Immediately after the lost series, there was speculation about a separation from Rivers.
The 58-year-old came to Los Angeles in 2013 after his time with the Orlando Magic and the Boston Celtics and is considered one of the most experienced and valued coaches in the NBA.
Recently, he has repeatedly expressed himself on the social injustice and the racism debate in the USA.
Rivers isn't the first coach to leave his post this NBA season.
In addition to the Clippers, the teams from Houston, Indiana, Philadelphia, Oklahoma City and New Orleans are also without a coach.
The Knicks, Nets and Bulls have already found a new coach.
