Handball: Ivry denounces an "obsolete and unsuitable" regulation with sanitary conditions

2020-10-19T18:31:19.420Z

The Val-de-Marne club had unsuccessfully requested the postponement of its match last Saturday against PSG, after the curfew announcements.

They and the rest of the club would have preferred to play this game at a later date.

Saturday, the Ivry players have yet welcomed those of PSG.

Initially scheduled for 8:30 p.m., the meeting was brought forward to 5:30 p.m., after the curfew imposed from that evening between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. in Ile-de-France and in other sensitive places.

Beyond the defeat (25-35 for Paris which recorded the serious injury of Nikola Karabatic), the club val-de-marnais does not understand why its request for postponement to November 11 was not heard, as it explained in a press release released before the game.

“The match against PSG is a flagship event for the supporters, and our territory, we can read.

It is also a stake for the economy of our club.

To deny this evidence is to be casual about the economic structure of clubs.

We did not want to organize this match in degraded conditions.

Our public, handball lovers, volunteers, players, deserve more respect.

"

“Receiving a club like PSG is a party, and it was a bit spoiled, loose Pascal Léandri, the director of the Ivry club.

It's like a wedding or a concert, it is impossible to accommodate optimally if the schedule is changed in less than 24 hours.

To review such an important organization is very complicated.

I would even say irresponsible.

"

In detail, Ivry first received a letter on Thursday, asking him to bring the schedule forward by three hours.

Immediately, and in order not to harm the spectators who had already bought their tickets and made their arrangements, the club asked the League to postpone the derby to Wednesday, November 11, a public holiday.

Friday evening, when optimism was rather de rigueur, he received confirmation that nothing would be changed.

On the capacity of 500 places (sanitary precaution obliges), only half was filled in the end.

“Playing at home in these conditions was no longer an advantage, there is a break in equity, continues Pascal Léandri.

There are two weights, two measures.

Since the start of the season, some matches have taken place despite cases of covid (Chambéry - Nîmes last Friday) or the fact that they are played behind closed doors.

Others, like those in Aix, are postponed while they also take place behind closed doors.

Let us be clear: we are not mistaken with anger.

We don't want the competition organizing committee or the people.

We denounce the regulations that we find unsuitable and obsolete.

For the next receptions (Montpellier on 30/10, Nîmes on 20/11, Toulouse on 04/12), the meetings taking place on Friday, it is possible that a postponement to the following Saturdays (at 5.30 pm) is requested.

Regarding that of Istres (Tuesday 15/12), the club will ask that it also be played at a later date outside of the day of the week, during school holidays or on a public holiday.

“We have to get out of the logic of absolute competition, concludes Pascal Léandri.

The very essence of our sport is spectacle.
