The Israel Police announced today (Sunday) that it has completed a joint investigation with the Tax Authority, against the gambling phenomenon that constitutes a crime - in which the police arrested a former owner of a football team on suspicion of gambling, and luxury vehicles and cash in the amount of NIS 900,000 were confiscated.
The police statement said: "The Petah Tikva police station, in cooperation with the Tax Authority, has been conducting an investigation into illegal gambling in recent months. On November 5, during a search of the suspect's house in Petah Tikva, cash worth half a million shekels was suspected Money laundering During the month of March this year, the suspect's apartment was searched again, and this time, equipment used for gambling and cash in the amount of thousands of dollars was seized on the spot.
"At the end of the investigation, an assessment worth NIS 1.9 million was filed against the suspect (a 40-year-old resident of Petah Tikva) and the suspect was charged NIS 891,000 in income tax.
In addition, a disposition order was issued for the suspect's apartment as well as for luxury vehicles owned by him (Porsche and Mercedes) and on his bank account.
"This is another step in the fight, led by the Israel Police and with the assistance of the Tax Authority, against the perpetrators of crime who are working to finance their criminal activities through the gambling mechanism, including the commission of money laundering stemming from criminal acts."
