The season was - due to Corona - quite short.

Ski racer Nadine Kapfer was only able to contest a few races.

Nevertheless, she achieved various good results.

In the meantime, the 21-year-old has caught up with everyday training again.

Peiting - Nadine Kapfer sits on a racing bike, kicks hard, struggles and grins.

This facial expression is unusual for the 21-year-old in view of the sweaty work.

“Corona makes endurance training, which is otherwise not so popular, a real highlight,” she says.

Why?

Because Kapfer is not alone, but surrounded by her sports colleagues.

Because after the downswing in Tarvisio (Italy), where Kapfer's season ended, she didn't have much time.

After short Easter days at home, the racer from Peiting went on to the NCO course in Hanover.

There, after the spring sun on the ski slopes, the somewhat dreary, German Corona everyday life caught up with her.

"Outside of our single room we are always wearing a mask, even when marching, that's pretty tough."

She does enjoy learning again and thus also finding out from whom and for what she actually gets her money as a sports soldier, “but always sitting alone in the room outside of class is not so great.” The only exception to this Alone is the common training on the racing bike after work.

Together with her colleagues, she therefore cycles through the flat landscape around Hanover for two hours almost every evening.

“It's great that we also have a few people from other sports with us this year.

That gives new input. ”And as is well known, this is the best motivator in the lonely Corona times.

Whereby: She is not lacking in motivation anyway.

Because Kapfer has had a strong season, although the athlete from SC Garmisch is one of the alpine racers most affected by Corona.

As a specialist in the speed disciplines, she suffered from the numerous cancellations in the European Cup.

At the end there were six more races, in which the 21-year-old got her best FIS points and was also allowed to be at the top once.

Nadine Kapfer in good shape at the Junior World Championships

After the Junior World Championships, where she had sold well in the Super-G and the combination, the big European Cup final should actually follow. But as so often, the speed drivers looked straight into the tube - the races were canceled at short notice. “It was really tough this year, but at least we were able to train.” At the end of March, luck was on her side. In France, four speed races were on the program at the national championships. In the first descent, Kapfer was able to convince in fourth place, an important success in winter 2021. "That made a really good feeling."

After the German championships in the technical disciplines, everything was right again. “The Slovenes accidentally postponed their speed championships so that they worked out for us,” says Kapfer. And in Tarvis, where the native Peitinger had already trained several times this year, she then stepped on the gas again: first and second place in the two downhill runs. The end of the season couldn't have gone any better. "Yes," beamed Kapfer. “Everything finally worked, one run worked from top to bottom. It's really a great feeling. "

At the beginning of the season, the goal was to crack the Top 100 or maybe even the Top 80 in Super-G and Downhill. In the Super-G, finishing 110th wasn't quite enough, but in the downhill the sport soldier is 81st. “I'm happy that it worked at the last minute.” It also worked with her place in the LGIb of the German Ski Association for the next season. Then Kapfer wants to take the next steps towards the World Cup.
