Spain's Carlos Alcaraz won the Umag Open Tennis Championships in Croatia today, with a sweeping victory in the final against veteran Frenchman Richard Gasquet.
And Alcaraz needed an hour and 17 minutes to decide the outcome of the match against Gasquet in his favour, with two sets without a response, with a score of 6-2 and 6-2, to launch his professional championships and become the youngest player to win the title in the history of the tournament.
The 18-year-old knocked out a number of experienced players in his path to the title, starting with Frenchman Lucas Puel in the first round, then Serbian Filip Krajinovic and his veteran compatriot Albert Ramos before defeating Gasquet in the final.
