Ex-Maccabi Tel Aviv was at the center of a racist incident that began with a violent brawl in the clash between Guangdong Southern and Liaoning • After the game, the host fans waited for Wiems and shouted harsh racist chants at him • Jeremy Lin defended himself: "The word thrown in the air contains so much pain"

It is hard to say that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will remember fondly the term of Sonny Wiems in Yad Eliyahu.

As you may recall, the swingman, who arrived at the hall in 2016 with great fanfare, was forced to leave in harsh tones after only six months, because the Yellows then claimed that he refused to take part in a drug test.

Since then, Wiems has had to try his luck in the Chinese league, and tonight (Wednesday) it turns out that the ex-Maccabi Tel Aviv found himself at the center of a racial incident, which was also documented on social media.

It all started when the 35-year-old Wiems arrived last Thursday with his team Guangdong Southern to host Liaoning's pitch and during the game found himself quarreling with rival player Han June.

Following the same brawl, the two players were sent off when Liaoning's local crowd started cursing Wiems (after the game Wiems was suspended for five games).

The racist curses towards Wiems did not stop in the field but continued even after the match, so a number of fans were waiting for him near the players' bus, who among other things shouted: "Negro, chicken out of here", and "Get out of China already ..".

The Chinese League (CBA) did not pass over the racist incident in silence and issued an unequivocal condemnation along with both teams: "We will adopt a policy of zero tolerance towards any word or act of discrimination."

Another who came out in defense of Wiems was Jeremy Lynn, who is remembered by basketball fans after starring in the New York Knicks uniform: "The racism towards Wiems was disrespectful. I have no words to describe the behavior of the fans. The word thrown into the air contains such immense pain."
