Spanish star Rafael Nadal failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the Madrid Masters, losing today to his compatriot Carlos Alcaras in the quarter-finals of the competition.
Alcaras, who celebrated his 19th birthday yesterday, managed to settle the match in his favour, with two sets to one, with results 6-2, 1-6, 6-3 in two hours and 29 minutes.
The 35-year-old Nadal failed to consolidate his record in the Madrid Championship by winning the title for the sixth time in his career.
On the other hand, Alcaras will meet in the semi-finals of the Serbian Novak Djokovic, who beat Poland's Hubert Hurkacz in the semi-finals, 6-3, 6-4.
