Tadej Pogacar, more explosive

The Slovenian tried to drop Jonas Vingegaard by attacking 20 km from the finish, at the top of Val Louron Azet.

But he had to deal with the solidity of the Dane.

More explosive, the leader of the UAE Team Emirates team, as at the top of La Super Planche des Belles Filles and in Mende, was able to outwit Jonas Vingeaard to clinch his 3rd victory on this Tour (after Longwy, 6th stage and La Super Planche des Belles Filles, 7th stage).

His 9th stage victory (3 in 2020, 3 in 2021, 3 in 2022) on the Tour.

Brandon McNulty, the meaning of sacrifice

The American, imperturbable, swallowed the kilometers to set a steady pace and clean up the group of favorites, escorting his leader Tadej Pogacar as long as possible.

McNulty devoted himself.

Given everything but the UAE tandem could not chip away at the impressive serenity of the imperturbable yellow jersey.

McNulty, 3rd in the stage, awarded the fighting spirit prize.

Thibaut Pinot, nose to the window

The Franc-Comtois (4th in Châtel, 3rd in Mende) had ants in his legs.

In a stage that started at full speed, he escaped with the Kazakh Alexey Lutsenko (Astana), who had long led the stage.

He took points for the classification of the best climber at the top of the Col d'Aspin and the Hourquette d'Ancizan.

Before being picked up and getting up to wait and help a little David Gaudu, slightly distanced from the yellow jersey group on the climb to Val Lourn-Azet, the penultimate difficulty of the day.

Finally 31st at 11'9''.

Romain Bardet, the revengeful

Very tested on arrival in Foix (16th stage), the leader of the DSM team hoped to bounce back.

Rested, determined, he rushed to the attack.

Peyragudes brought back good memories to the Auvergnat, he who had won at the altiport in 2017. His efforts were rewarded with a 6th place at 2'38 ''.

David Gaudu (7th at 3'27'') retains his 5th place in the general classification.

FLOPS

Adam Yates-Thomas Pidcock, retarded Ineos duo

6th on the morning of the 17th stage, the Briton finished late (21st in the stage at 8'59'').

He slipped to 9th place (at 14'33'').

Thomas Pidcock (brilliant stage winner at the top of L'Alpe d'Huez) also suffered.

He finished very far (53rd at 22'06).

Nairo Quintana, a little below his desires

The Colombian (Arkéa-Samsic) was hoping to nibble some time on Geraint Thomas.

The Welshman, winner of the 2018 Tour, remains the third man behind the untouchables and with the advantage of the Rocamadour time trial, he has the podium as his objective.

Nairo Quintana gave in 26 km from the finish but hung on (10th in the stage at 3'32'').

He retains his 4th place in the general classification (7'53'' from the yellow jersey; 2'57'' from the podium).
