Hope Solo was one of the most famous women's football stars.

Now she has to be imprisoned for 30 days.

The reason?

Your apparent drinking problem.

Winston-Salem/Munich - The hype unleashed by the women's European Championship in England this summer is remarkable.

One that has always been in the public eye has fallen once again.

She's long been the face of US women's soccer - now she's going to jail!

We're talking about Hope Solo.

The three-time Olympic champion and world champion from 2015 has to be behind bars for 30 days.

The reason?

Driving under the influence of alcohol!

In addition, the now 40-year-old former US goalkeeper was sentenced to a 24-month suspended prison sentence, as quoted by the

AP

news agency from a statement by the prosecutor.

Solo has over 200 caps for the US national team.

The incident that led to the prison sentence sounds terrifying: A police patrol found Solo passed out in her car in a parking lot in the large city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with the engine running and her two-year-old twins sitting in the back seat.

The ex-goalkeeper gave up her driver's license, according to local newspaper

Winston-Salem Journal

, and apologized to her family and fans.

She made a "big mistake," Solo wrote in a post on Instagram.

"I underestimated how devastating a part of my life alcohol had become," Solo wrote on the social media platform.

The blood test after the March incident showed that Solo had three times the legal alcohol content in his blood.

The reason for her misconduct was the corona pandemic, which caused problems for her family with two small children, she wrote in her post.

Solo has been married to former football player Jerramy Stevens since 2012.

The court imposed other conditions, including addiction treatment.

Solo also has to pay a $2,500 fine and $600 for all lab tests.

Some of the original allegations against her, such as resisting an officer and abusing children, have been dropped, the newspaper quoted her lawyer as saying.

It wasn't Solo's first scandal.

In 2014, a case of domestic violence caused a stir.

Also under the influence of alcohol, she is said to have violently attacked her half-sister and her then 17-year-old nephew and described them as "firm, unsportsmanlike and crazy".

Afterwards, she herself was unable to calm the police down and she also became abusive to the officers.

There was also a scandal at the 2016 Olympics, when Solo called her opponents a "bunch of cowards" and was subsequently banned by the US federation for six months - which also marked her end with the national team.

She then ended her active career and worked as an expert for Eurosport at the 2017 Women's European Championship.
