Days of success are passing by for Israeli athletics.
It started with impressive achievements at the Senior World Championships held last month, including a historic bronze medal by Luna Chemtai Salpeter - and reached its peak tonight (between Thursday and Friday), with an amazing gold by Blessing Afripa in the 200 meters at the Under-20 World Championships.
Afripa The 18-year-old finished the run with an unimaginable time of 19.96 seconds, smashing the all-time record up to the age of 20. Unsurprisingly, this is also an Israeli record that Afripa has been smashing repeatedly in recent months.
"Today we saw another result of perseverance and willpower," boasted the Chairman of the Athletics Association Ami Baran. "Afrifa and his coach Igor Balon proved today that if you dream about it, you can get where you want.
I am so proud of them and all the athletes and coaches in this championship.
Hats off to them for the efforts and pride they bring to the State of Israel and Israeli sports."

After the dust settles and the celebrations are over, Afrifa will start preparing for the next big challenge: the European Senior Championships which will open in 10 days in Munich.
Considering the fact that Afrifa determined the result of the year in Europe tonight, it seems that he will aim to stand on the podium in the upcoming competition as well.
One way or another, he appears to be the great hope of Israeli sports ahead of the Paris Olympics.
