Bochum frustration despite the first point

In the Sunday afternoon game of the 7th Bundesliga matchday, VfL Bochum narrowly missed out on their first win of the season in a 1-1 (1-0) win over 1. FC Köln.
The Cologne equalizer only came in the final phase.
Despite winning a point, Bochum remains at the bottom of the table behind VfL Wolfsburg.
VfL Bochum, still pointless at the bottom of the table, received 1. FC Köln, who were still unbeaten away from home, after the release of ex-coach Thomas Reis.
The Domstädter traveled with the tailwind of the 4:2 (2:0) against 1. FC Slovacko from the Conference League.
Bochum interim coach Heiko Butscher changed four positions compared to 1: 3 (0: 1) at Schalke, including defender Tim Oermann on his professional debut, Patrick Osterhage and Gerrit Holtmann started on the offensive.
The completely renewed VfL scored straight away: after Manuel Riemann opened the game, Holtmann quickly ran to the baseline on the left and crossed in front of the goal, where Jonas Hector shot Benno Schmitz in an attempt to clear – own goal (9th).
Holtmann could have made it 2-0 after he shot the post from 14 yards out (19').
Cologne tried with a lot of ball possession against well-staggered Bochum with long-range shots, Dejan Ljubicic (22nd) and Florian Kainz narrowly missed (33rd).
VfL midfielder Holtmann stayed out for the second half, replaced by Jordi Osei-Tutu.
He also immediately provided a move forward, but was offside when he scored (50th) and played another counterattack in the back of his teammate (55th) - but it showed that VfL, like in the first half, were on the right track from the start wanted to invest more than the opponent.
Cologne found no way to break through Bochum's defence, Bochum remained dangerous on the counterattack.
Philipp Hofmann's shot from 20 meters was not missing much (59th).
Baumgart substitutes the point win
Half an hour before the end, Cologne coach Steffen Baumgart made three changes: Kingsley Schindler, Linton Maina and Eric Martel should activate a current strength of FC: in Leipzig (2: 2), Frankfurt (1: 1) and most recently in Wolfsburg (4: 2), 1. FC Köln still scored after falling behind.
And it worked this time too: Joker Maina initiated the game himself and shot Riemann from an acute angle into the far corner from the left in the penalty area to make it 1-1 (88th).
After the international break, VfL Bochum will travel to Leipzig.
Cologne welcomes Borussia Dortmund with ex-Cologne resident Anthony Modeste (both games on October 1, 3:30 p.m.).
