Despite a good performance in Rosenheim, Tölzer Löwen conceded their fourth defeat in a row with 3:4

Rosenheim/Bad Tölz - A tight, exciting derby.

But in the end, the Tölzer Löwen went home with 3:4 and thus the fourth defeat in a row.

The guests kept the game open for a long time on Wednesday evening with well-known defensive carelessness, but a well-disposed Josef Hölzl in goal and a few offensive highlights.

But even a committed final offensive with one more field player on the ice no longer brought the hoped-for compensation.

One or the other direct conclusion might have secured at least one point.

"We fought until the end, a very good game, we have to do a few little things better," said Löwen coach Ryan Foster.

Exciting derby without a happy ending

The lions' fighting spirit and attitude were intact despite their slack without a sense of achievement - as the coach had indicated.

The lions started concentrated, without blunders in defense, with accents going forward.

The goal was kept by Josef Hölzl instead of the last strong Enrico Salvarani.

And he gave Foster no reason to regret his decision.

"He held well, he can't do anything for the goals conceded," says the coach.

It was the same old problem: The hosts were 2-1, a pass into the slot and Marc Schmidpeter executed it coldly.

Clear course for Dillon Eichstadt

But the lions came back cleverly: Philipp Schlager opened up a free space for Dillon Eichstadt, who rushed in from the left.

He took off from an acute angle – surprisingly also for Starbulls keeper Christopher Kolarz – 1:1.

Norman Hauner's renewed lead - he completed a pass through the goal area callously - equalized the Tölzer a little later.

Tyler Ward deliberately converted a rebound.

Max Brandl injured on check

Tölz was still missing veteran Nick Huard, and since Wednesday another veteran has also been missing: Ex-Rosenheimer Max Brandl injured his knee during a check, went from the penalty box to the dressing room and will probably be out for a while.

And of all people Tyler McNeely – until the pre-season still a reliable scorer in a lion's dress, gave his former team two goals.

In good interaction with Starbull's new signing Hauner, he caused a lot of goal threats, scored in Tölzer with a man down to 3:2 and increased to 4:2 in the final third.

Final offensive for equalization

For Foster “the sticking point.

We were too passive in that phase, but we still got the chance to equalize with the 3:4.” Justi Späth completed his solo attack in Rosenheim's loss of a target with ice coldness and scored the goal.

It stayed that way, even if Tölz pushed for the 4:4.

However, Rosenheim could have made the result clearer: Steffen Tölzer just missed the empty Tölzer goal when Hölzl was still on the other post.

Hauner fell during his solo.

Even when Hölzl cleared his box 90 seconds before the end, the disc never landed in a goal.

First six-point weekend

"I think it's only a matter of time before we win again if we keep playing like this," says Foster, quite satisfied with the performance of the Tölzer team.

Maybe this Friday, when the lions welcome table neighbors Deggendorf for a direct duel.
